Patricia Nelson was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary. Mrs. Nelson worked for 15 years in the energy industry with Suncor Inc., Sabre Petroleums and Petroterra Natural Resources. In 1989, she was elected to the Alberta Legislature representing the Calgary Foothills Constituency. In her 15 years in the Alberta government, Mrs. Nelson served as the first female Minister of Energy, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, Minister of Government Services and Minister of Finance in Alberta. She retired from politics at the end of 2004. From 2005 to 2010 Mrs. Nelson was the CEO and President of the Calgary Health Trust. She sits on the Board of Directors of Altalink and WHY Resources Ltd., OPTIOM Inc. and is the Vice-Chair and a Member of the Board of Directors of the In Situ Oil Sands Alliance (IOSA). Mrs. Nelson is a member of the Premier’s Executive Council for Alberta’s Promise, and served as a member of the External Advisory Board for the Institute for Public Economics for the University of Alberta. She has been active participant for the “Run for the Cure’ and is an avid supporter of Juvenile Diabetes and the Kidney Foundation.
